Building Typology- University of Animation plus Convention Hall

The Building Typology I will be researching is a university for animation with a convention hall. Since there are not that many universities that focus solely on animation here in New York, it would be nice to see what one would be like here. Also since animation is a huge portion of the entertainment industry, it would make sense to have conventions to gather and see the new up and coming talents and share in the love of this medium.
Like any university, it would need to have classrooms, lecture halls, cafeterias, and other things typical in this building type. However with the focus on animation, there would have to be studios, computer labs, sound labs, screening rooms and other media focused rooms. As for the convention hall area, it would have to be large and spacious. I would need to look at how a convention space would flow.

I will be looking at existing schools for animation as examples for my design. For example: California Institute of the Arts, USC School of Cinematic Arts, UCF College of Arts and Humanities, Brigham Young University, and the University of Utah.

Perhaps even look at actual animation studios like Cartoon Network Studios, Pixar Studios, or Nickelodeon Animation Studios to see what amenities an animation school would need.

Then for the convention hall portion of it I will be looking at places like Jacob Javitz Center in NY, Nassau Coliseum, and the Los Angeles Convention Center in CA.

My goal for this project is to design a haven for animation enthusiasts. A place for those passionate about animation can learn about the trade and meet others who share in their passion. To create as much of a real-world experience so when the students graduate, they will have no trouble adjusting to their career choice.

Some of the elements of the program will include:
Traditional Animation Studios
Digital Animation Labs
Sound Effects Labs
Screening Rooms/ Projection Rooms
Lecture Halls
Classrooms
Voice-Over Recording Rooms
Auditorium
Convention Hall
