Based off my research, I've come up with the following program for a university that focuses on everything that has to do with animation.
Studios (Traditional hand drawn, claymation, etc)
Computer labs
Classrooms
Screening Rooms
Sound Booths
Conference Rooms
Theater/Auditorium
Then of course, there are general things needed in a university:
Offices
Cafeteria
Library
Gymnasium
This great. Noe you need to come up with square footages.
ReplyDeleteAnd how many classrooms would you like. How many computer labs etc.
One way to start looking at the square footage is to figure out how many students are in each space and what type of furniture they need.
ReplyDeleteThe classrooms on the 8th floor are quite large and they have both computers and drafting and model making areas along with lecture areas. What type of classrooms do you have?
This is a great start to a programme. A couple of considerations which could be added as programmatic elements:
ReplyDeleteShops for constructing claymation sets, etc.
editing bays
motion capture studios/facilities
administrative and university specific spaces as well as professor offices
support spaces
mechanical and electrical rooms
janitorial spaces
server rooms
pinup spaces for storyboards, ideas, sketches, and discussions, etc.
public (lounge) spaces for congregation and interaction
I am not seeing any program for the convention center. Is that still in your scope or have you scaled back?
As noted above, try now to specify numbers and square footages for your spaces. It will aid you greatly in your adjacency and massing studies to have a notion of how many rooms and how much footprint you will occupy. Think about capacities of activities, typical class sizes, off hour usage and total students served for a notion of quantity required. Also, look at the prevailing code governing the site. There are a lot of figures you can divine out of the capacity calculations by usage and building type which can be reverse engineered to suit your needs.
