Final Model

Here is how my model looks.
Then added to the site model my group had created before.

  1. Great thought to take a look at the building in context. I think the scale, the massing and general site placement are spot-on. The photography is also quite good, giving great perspectives on the surfaces.

I would say that your model has one of 2 things working against it: Either you need to completely divorce materiality from it and make everything monochromatic and all of the same paper; or you need to start differentiating materiality and allowing the different media to signify true building elements.

To me, there are not enough "sheets of paper" represented. The whimsy could be elevated immensely by shrinking the sizes of the sheets and multiplying their numbers. This is true of both the roof and elevations. Think about peek-a-boo moments wherein the space between peeling layers can be envisioned as glazing. The choice to utilize paper for the model is essential for your forms to mimic that of the real thing. However, you need to be more careful working with it. The visibility of creases in the paper is indicative of an effort to make it do something that it does not naturally want to do..."ask the brick what it wants to be."

Move from study models into a more finished presentation style model. It will definitely serve you well in lieu of rendering each ad every interesting aspect of the project graphically. Use this one to cut up and add more sheets down and dirty style. Once you are happy with the outcome, template the surfaces and transfer them to a clean model. You will find out a lot about your project in doing so. It might even re-inform your plans and sections (which are sorta "done" already.)

  2. I really like the way the shape of the building starts to show... it has great sculptural value. The changes that were made articulated the overall fucntion and purpose of the building (although I still have a question-mark regarding the scale and posision of the main staircases).
    Few comments:
    1. The plan and the model show an inclination of the ground (stairs of first floor cafe/South elevation)-However the views and the section dont show the level difference/you need to inform those dwgs of the real situation.
    2. Regarding the model: i think the corner at the Northeast side of the bulding (that hosts the elevators and toilets) is too rigid. It needs a split at least in two surfaces/ the glass inbetween the split of the rigid surfaces can be semitransparent(privacy).
    3. Facades: Maybe the supporting structure of the glass panes should be placed in the interior of the building envelope not the exterior /so that is visible in the inside while in the outside the glazed surfaces seem like a uniformed uninterrupted surface.
    4. We dont have any information regarding the construction/cladding materials of the building. For example: what are the "paper-like" surfaces made of? metal mesh? light concrete?(each brings totally different aesthetic and structural value to the building/ it will determine your structural details aswell).
